Video: When Do You Empty a Carpenter Bee Trap?

Welcome! I’m Mike Ryan here in the bee cabin.

I’m here today to tell you when you should empty the receptacle in your trap.

First, with the new trap, it is really important to leave the first couple of dead bees in the trap--they release a pheromone that attracts more bees. However, as the trap fills up, you will want to empty it out at some point.

On our Best Bee Trap, shown here, you might want to empty it out as soon as you see the chamber is full. It is as easy as pulling a string for releasing the bottom door.

Here, let me show you. There are only 5-6 bees in there. You can see this chamber will probably collect 40-50-even 60 bees, depending on how big they are. You can get a lot of bees in there.

On our Box Traps, they can hold a lot of bees too. But, it is a little more difficult to see inside. You can probably go all season without emptying it. However, if you are worried about it, take a look at the bottom and see if they are piled up inside. Shake it around a little bit if you need to. If you think it is really full, you can pull out the bottom receptacle and empty it. But again, it can hold a lot of bees.
