How Do I know if I need a Trap?

Before worrying about why your trap isn’t working properly, make sure to ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Are there any holes drilled by carpenter bees?
  2. Do you see them constantly flying around a “hot spot”?
  3. Is there a male carpenter bee protecting the hole?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you most definitely will benefit from our Carpenter Bee Traps.

To find out more about why your carpenter bee trap may not be working, although you answered yes to one of the above questions, please view the video above.

Hi, today I’m going to talk about why your carpenter bee trap might not be working.

First check to see if there are active nests.

Have the carpenter bees started drilling holes anywhere?

Are they consistently flying in and out of a sheltered area?

Is there a male carpenter bee protecting a hole?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you’ve got some work to do.

Because carpenter bees are very territorial, they will ignore the decoy nest which is the trap.

To fix this we suggest you treat the nest with a pesticide if you prefer, and fill in the hole.

Once the current nest is closed the bees will research for a new home.

Next check the location of the trap.

Is you trap getting bounced around by the elements, or are you moving?

and rehanging in different places?

Is it getting pelted by rain?

Is it easily visible?

For best results, mount the carpenter bee trap or hang it along a wall where it can only move in two directions.

Try to place it in a semi-sheltered area that is still visible. If you can’t easily see the trap, then the carpenter bees can’t easily find it either.

Lastly, be patient.

Not all traps work immediately, some will but the majority can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Carpenter bees have a strong sense of smell and your new carpenter bee trap came from a warehouse that does not smell like your outdoor home environment.

Our traps are 100% chemical free so we rely on the carpenter bees senses to find the trap.

TO speed up the trap’s effectiveness, try this trick:

Place a dead carpenter bee in the bottom of the trap. Carpenter bees are attracted to the smell of other dead carpenter bees, so the more dead carpenter bees in the trap, the more carpenter bees you will attract. If you can’t get a dead carpenter bee, try our Bee-Licious Bee Bait for the same effect.
